White pixels and transparent pixels are not the same

A checkerboard is only a preview convention. The exported PNG must contain an alpha channel for another background to show through.

White background vs real transparencyA white fill remains visible. Transparent pixels reveal whatever sits behind the PNG.

    A result you can inspect

Transparency is measured from the processed pixels

The result is not a stock preview. PNGToolbox processes the selected image on this device, counts transparent pixels in the working canvas, and measures the exported PNG file.

    01

    Sample the real background

Click a background area in the preview. The selected pixel color becomes the removal target, so you can correct off-white or colored backgrounds.

    02

    Compare before and after

Switch between Original and Result without changing the export canvas. This makes missed edges, holes, and excessive removal easier to spot.

    03

    Read the actual result

The toolbar reports the transparent share of the image and the browser-generated PNG size instead of promising a fixed outcome.

    Choose the right operation

Edge removal or global color removal?

These modes solve different background problems. Choosing the safer mode first protects colors inside the subject.

    ModeUse it whenTradeoff
Connected to edgesThe subject is surrounded by one background colorSafer for white details enclosed inside the subject
EverywhereThe same unwanted color appears in separate areasCan remove matching colors that belong to the subject
FeatheringEdges look jagged or retain a light haloToo much can make fine details translucent

Choose the workflow from the source image

The right operation depends on what you start with, not simply on wanting a PNG at the end.

    FAQ

    WebP to PNG questions

    Are WebP files uploaded?

No. For normal use, selected WebP files are converted locally in your browser.

    Does PNG keep transparency?

Yes. If the WebP image contains transparent pixels, the PNG output should keep that transparency in browsers that support WebP decoding.

Why is PNG larger than WebP?

PNG is designed for lossless graphics and transparency, while WebP often uses stronger compression for web delivery.

Can animated WebP files be converted?

This browser tool is intended for still images. Animated WebP files may only expose a single frame depending on browser behavior.
